Summary
Serbian Railways JSC
(SR) is undertaking the construction of Stara Pazova to Novi
Sad Railway Track Modernization project in Serbia.
The project involves the
reconstruction and modernization of the Stara Pazova to Novi Sad section on the
Stara Pazova-Subotica-Hungarian border railway line. It will be implemented in
different phases.
It will include the
reconstruction of an existing single-track rail line between Stara Pazova and
Novi Sad section into a 44km double rail line.
It also includes the
reconstruction and modernization of signaling systems, electric power
installations, telecommunication, and cables. Construction of a second new
track on a 44km railway section between Stara Pazova and Novi Sad and the
installation of safety and security systems. Construction of the tunnel "Cortanovci" and viaducts.
The lines will be fully
electrified, and the construction works will be able to support train
operations with the speed of up to 160km/h.
In January 2013, a
contract was signed between Russian Railways International, (a subsidiary of
Russian Railways) and SR to reconstruct the existing track and construct a new
second track on the 44km section between Stara Pazova and Novi Sad.
In March 2014, Russian Railways and SR have signed a
supplementary agreement at the Expo-Russia
Serbia 2014. The contract was signed in the framework of an agreement
between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the
Republic of Serbia to provide a state export credit in the amount of US$800
million for the railway infrastructure projects.
On October 13, 2014, RZD
International LLC (a subsidiary of Russian Railways International) signed a
design-build contract with SR for the development of the project.
In February 2016,
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije (SR) and RZD were set to sign a deal for works
on the project.
KBV Datacom has been appointed
as a design consultant.
The project will receive
US$205 million of funds from the European Investment Bank and remaining funds
from pre-accession funds of the European Union and through Russian state loan.
On July 18, 2016, RZD
International and SR of Serbia have signed US$338 million supplementary
agreement for the construction of the project.
On November 15, 2017,
RZD International and JSC Infrastructure Railways of Serbia signed an agreement
to Russian loan of USD$247.9 million for the construction of the project.
On September 18, 2017,
construction work were commenced and are underway.
Construction works on
tunnel are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2022.
